Motherhood Story

I had the most wonderful opportunity to meet Dee and her baby girl Nara for a special motherhood session at sunset. This session launches a whole new segment and journey for me - celebrating a mothers journey - from maternity to growing as a mother. It is such a BIG moment in a womans life that brings so much beauty, transformation and memories - i want to honour that.

Soon this session will be turned into a beautiful storybook accompanied with Dee’s words and thoughts on her motherhood journey. I can’t wait to share this with you soon.

I was lucky enough to have the amazing Sandra from Boholicious who took care of Dee’s hair and Make-up. She is worth every penny and i love the way we work together as a team! Be sure to check out the little video on the makeup/photoshoot experience Dee had (at the bottom of this post).

I just love this family!!  Repeat clients - Raquel and Nuno are expecting their second bundle of joy and I couldn't be happier for them.  If their new baby is anything like their little girl Matilde, they're going to have one super sweet family!

This session was so vibrant and summery! The flowers were in bloom and it was the perfect backdrop for some family time spent together.  Even Matilde got a little present surprise from her parents and I feel so lucky to have been able to capture them.  As she was opening this gift you see not only the joy from Matilde receiving the doll she wanted, but also the happiness it brought the parents.  The true joy of giving!

This session, is of course, very close to my heart as it features some of my favourite people! This is my sister, her husband Shane and my niece Caitlin, and nephew Lachlan.  I was also lucky enough to style this shoot and choose a gorgeous location, so I went with the beach and chose all the outfits (except Shanes') from Rylee and Cru - they have the most gorgeous clothes.. I can't get enough!

I love this session because it was all just in the moment - there was lots of laughing, cuddles, dancing, picking up shells, making patterns in the sand... and my niece might have shed a few tears because she was suddenly scared of waves...  (expect the unexpected with 4 year olds!)

I am so proud of this work, and feel like this result comes about with less posing, and more natural lovely moments.  I would love to shoot more unposed sessions - please get in touch if you would like me to capture a special session for you.

The best gift you can give your kids

The best gift you can give your kids

Hi Super-mums!

You know better than anyone, how quickly the time passes.  It feels like yesterday that you spent hours just staring into your precious newborns eyes.  You’ve been excited for them to grow up while at the same time wishing for time to stop so you can enjoy them at this age a little while longer.

IMG_20180508_0080.jpg

In the pursuit of the perfect childhood for you kids, you’re tirelessly and selflessly making it happen. You’re up late at night sewing sequins on to ballet costumes, you’re cutting out shapes in their sandwiches to make mealtimes fun, you cave and spend another 20 minutes pushing your child on the swing because they keep shouting ‘more!’, you’re reading multiple storybooks before bedtime and you’re kissing their scraped knees to stop the tears.  Your little ones rarely notice in the moment how much work it is to give them this adventure-filled and beautiful childhood, and that’s okay.

It wasn’t until I was an adult, looking back on my childhood photographs that I said to my mum:

‘I don’t know how you did it all!’.

My wonderful memories aren’t of my mother putting in all the effort, but they are because my mum put the effort in! Toasting marshmallows on family camping trips, getting to wear sparkly costumes for dance concerts, and collecting freshly-laid eggs from our chicken pens.  I remember my mum making a ‘pouch’ out of a sweater so us kids could hold and feed our baby kangaroo - Yes, i am that Australian.  These were the days that I had not a care in the world - our days were filled with adventure, fun and opportunity.

Flossie.jpeg

These photographs, that hold all these special memories (even the ones I was too young to remember) are priceless and if I take good care of them, they will last even longer than me.  After my care-free childhood, my childhood photos are the most precious gift my parents have given me.

So much love goes into giving your child a great childhood and I know you are pouring in all your time, effort and love into doing just that -  but you can leave the capturing of that love and those memories to me.  My ‘Real Sweet Life’ sessions capture the moments that sometimes go uncelebrated and I will make it easy on you - I’ll join you for a morning where you don’t need to get all dressed up, or make your house look like a show-home, you can even carry out your normal daily routine of breakfast, walks in the park, story-time and naps.  I will document all the beautiful, small moments that happen every day.  It will reflect the crazy, beautiful, love-filled family you have and will be the same images that your kids look back on one day and say

‘Mum, I don’t know how you did it all!’

Let’s capture your Real Sweet Life together!  You can find out more and book your session HERE.

Love Suzy

P.s.  The photos in this post are some of my treasured memories from my own childhood!

Autumn Family Session

Autumn Family Session

A couple of weekends ago, i met the gorgeous Gama family.  With 4 children, I was expecting a busy 45 minutes, however the kids were super adorable and well behaved.  The littlest warmed up during the shoot and we ended up with some amazing photos for them to treasure for the rest of their lives!  Morning light is superb by the way - and it's great if you have little ones as they are a bit fresher and happier in the mornings.

Hallan-Nickel Family

This family was a total dream!  We went to one of my favourite locations in Basel for a family session - Lange Erlen Park.  It was so many beautiful spots and right now, the leaves are starting to turn orange.   We had a lot of fun making our way through the park, stopping at the river to throw some rocks in, before heading to a big corn field for some more.

Couldn't be happier in how these photos turned out. Let me know if you want your own family session before the weather gets too cold!

Bramwell Family

Forgive me while I catch up on some older family sessions.  This is the Bramwell family in the heart of the Alt Stadt in Basel.  We had a great time wondering the cobblestoned streets and capturing some beautiful family moments.  The youngest child, Jaxon really wanted to have a picture with a Basel tram - and making dreams come true is what i'm all about!  :-P

Football and Scouts

I love love love the concept of this shoot. Lillian and Emily's mother, Heather, wanted to capture her daughters hobbies!  Lillian enjoys playing football and is part of 2 different Swiss teams.  Emily is part of Scouts in Basel.  So we used nature and a football field to showcase and capture what they do best.  Completely adore this location - it was the perfect setting for each of their hobbies.

I love that the focus of this shoot was on the girls' passions - it celebrates their individuality.  Every child should get the opportunity for this.

Check out my favourites from the shoot:

I had the wonderful opportunity of photographing Martha & Deigo and their 3 children, Finley, Chiara and Devin in Basel's Lange Erlen on the weekend.  They are a multicultural family with heritage in the USA and Italy while living in Basel, Switzerland. They're all bi-lingual - something I marvel at as (so far) only speak one language!  Finley, the oldest of the three kids also represents Switzerland in athletic events! This family is seriously talented!!

Even though it was humid and hot (even after 7:30pm!) we had so much fun together. This family has a whole lot of love for one another and it really showed through in these photos.

As a kid, I grew up only a couple of streets away from Luke, and now, 20 years later, I had the pleasure of photographing his family!  Luke, his gorgeous fiance Rachael, and their 3 children - Quinn, Vea and Leon.

These girls look quite perfect in their white matching dresses sitting on the floral swing.  And gorgeous Leon stole the show dressed so handsome in his suspenders!

Thompson Family

On a lovely summers day, I met the Thompson Family for their first proper family photoshoot.  Little Xavier was so well behaved and smiling for me all the time which made our shoot super productive.  We not only got some great shots, but it was great family time for them too.  I loved the props that Wayne and Fleur brought along - a wooden truck (thats been passed down in his family) and a pin-wheel.  These types of props keep children amused, but also look so good in photos - I think i have to invest in a few of these items myself!

Take a look at some of the best shots from the day:

Team Vincent!

I've been photographing this family for years now, Zara is my little muse and now they have a new addition to their family - Marlee.  As you can see, she's as wide-eyed and adorable as Zara. Altogether, they are the most beautiful family and I love watching them grow.

Even cooler, is the fact they made family shirts with their birth dates... what a great idea!!! We got so many great shots from this session, and these are just a handful of my favourites.

Boho Babelicious Birthday

Had the absolute pleasure of photographing Inaaya's first birthday celebration.  I'm in absolute awe of these mothers who organise super schmick birthday do's.  Innaya's mum, Cassie, had a white teepee, floor cushions, and feathers suspended with fishing wire, which made them look like they were floating!  Inaaya was wearing a gold sequined number with a bohemian feather headpiece to match her mum.  A photographers delight!

Cake Smash!

I have wanted to photograph a cake smash for the longest time, and I finally received the opportunity to do one!  I have to say, I think I was more excited than the family to be able to be part of this celebration.  India turned one and her parents put together the most beautiful blend of peach, pink and gold balloons, tassel garland, cake, outfit choices and darling crown.

I revelled in the girlishness of it all! What a lucky girl India is.  Her dad was super proud that she didn't eat one bit of that cake,  with all the 'smashing' being helped along by the parents.

Sunlight on a winters day

This weekend I met the gorgeous Newton Family and I was lucky enough to photograph 3 gorgeous kids - Anneliese, Kaylee and Logan.  Mee-oh-my!  Each of them so captivating and don't even get me started on their beautiful blue eyes and the girls' long hair.

We danced, laughed, climbed trees, explored deserted houses and played near creeks... here are the photos:

Zara and the secret garden

This was a bit of a spontaneous shoot and we didn't expect to be at Caversham House, especially when it was closed.  This was us just having some fun, on a sunny winters day... practising our photography skills. :-)

How can you resist not snapping a few of this gorgeous little girl... almost 3!
The gates, gardens, staircases and zara's outfit made it look like she was venturing into a secret garden, so that is what we'll name this collection.
